Is this a good start to my story?

well, i know you dont wanna hear this but it might be easier if you didnt have such a good understanding or firm idea of your character. its easier if you let the character develope during the story, not start out with this complerte idea of who he is. that way, if he book starts to move in a different direction, you wont fight so hard to keep it on track, rather following the story. its sounds like a good idea though.
