Is "Flanders' Fields" a cheesy poem?

I love John MacCrea's poem, until it gets to the part where it says "take up our quarrel with the foe". That's where it seems to turn self defeating. I know he wrote it during 2nd Ypres, and the full horror hadn't sunk in yet, but I think we could come up with a poem that better symbolizes what Remembrance Day is all about.
