Home made window defroster?

Anyone have any ideas on how to make a home-made heating source to defrost a car windshield? Wondering if it's possible to create a heating element that runs on DC... just trying to be creative... no silly or smart alec answers - I want people with genuinely curious minds to offer their genuine suggestions / ideas. I think it would be neat to compare notes.
